ANYWAY yesterday went for BBQ with my family at JURONG. HAHA damn far away and one of my cousins was taking forever to come because he apparently drove at 50km/h LOLOL. But yea just! DID RIDICULOUS THINGS WITH THE KIDS. Was put on toddler-sitting duty quite a lot of the time, and talked a lot with my rather smart (but also rather selfish) niece, who, in response to "moon!" said "MOONCAKE". It was rather enjoyable :D
ALSO people were flying kites because there was this huge open field in the middle of Jurong, and they kept the kites up at night. It was gorgeous. Because we were at Jurong, and there's a lot of aircraft around there, they have this regulation that you must put lights on your kites if you're flying them at night, and there was just this huge gathering of lights in the sky where the wind was blowing. Gorgeous (: Someone near us also let up this kite which made a lot of noise and attracted the attention of all the kids on the playground :D Unfortunately I didn't bring my own camera (BLAST MYSELF FOR FORGETTING) and my cousin's camera reallllly sucked, so I didn't get any photos ):
As it was cloudless early in the night, I spent a lot of time just gazing out at the sky. Didn't spot the Evening Star until the sky was dark, because the orientation of the night sky was very different from what I expected it to be. But I saw Orion again! And because I just talked to someone about stars the day before, I figured out where Sirius and Aldebaran were as well (: A while later the clouds rolled in and masked all the stars, but the moon's light gave it this halo, and if you stared close enough (and I always try to stare close enough) you could make out that the edge had a rainbow hue to it ♥
Also, today is 十五, which means the moon will be full tonight :D
I don't know if this is sensical but I think my new obsession is with things in the sky. Someone posted this on 188's Facebook page: "For once you have tasted flight you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skywards, for there you have been and there you will long to return." It's a quote from Leornado da Vinci and it just. I've always been oddly fascinated by the sky, but now even more so. I just. Yea.
I have a new resolution to bring my camera everywhere because the world is beautiful and I want to immortalise as much of it as possible. I've left the camera in my bag for the past few weeks already, but obviously it's not enough.
And I thought this to myself the other day: you are the sky and I'm grounded by my fears. Which is a nonsensical thought but not really. I don't have a lot of time left and I feel like I'm wasting it away and letting it slip past and. Well. I'm going to regret this in the end but I'd rather regret it this way than any other way. Don't get me wrong though, I'm crazy happy for you. It's just the selfish side of me speaking.
And I'm dying to know, is it killing you like it's killing me?
SO ANYWAYS. I finished The Colour of Magic yesterday!
It... wasn't as good as I expected it to be. I don't know why but I found it rather tedious to finish this book, and my brain felt like it was moving sluggishly all throughout it. Terry Pratchett is a fucking genius, and he is hilarious, but I guess the pace of my brain couldn't match up. He is honestly amazing though ("I assure you the thought never even crossed my mind, Lord." "Indeed? Then if I were you I'd sue my face for slander.")
Also Discworld is an incredible world.
But like I said: nothing really struck me about it. Reading Pratchett to me is mostly for entertainment, and I suppose I was difficult to entertain with my mental slothing and general bitterness recently.
IN ANY CASE. I didn't love it, but it was definitely enjoyable! I may have been a bitch to entertain but Pratchett still made me laugh out loud too much.
I've read The Light Fantastic but I can't seem to remember any of it! I may borrow it again since I still have some time and now I appreciate the nuances of Discworld better. It's a fascinating world, definitely :D I shall set about reading all of it!
I recently renewed Grotesque and the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Groteque is going to take forever to finish, so I may not borrow another book. I didn't renew In The Miso Soup, because well. I wasn't really interested, oops, and also because I see it on the shelves all the time anyway, I figured it'll be easy enough to find. So yea I shan't borrow anything!
It's a shame really. I spent so much time not on books these few weeks. ): I need to read more.
I JUST CHALLENGED MYSELF TO READ 50 BOOKS THIS YEAR ON GOODREADS LOL \O/ It might be crazy but! Also I read a startling amount over the holidays, tbqh, given that I haven't read a lot recently. I like the BOOKNERD!me, really.
